Brandon author launches debut novel
By Renee Cronley
Friendly Neighbouhood Comic Shop hosted a signing event for Daniel McMillan’s debut novel, Eve of Ascension, Saturday, June 8th, 2019. After a successful book launch in Winnipeg the previous weekend, McMillan was excited to launch his novel in his hometown of Brandon. “Michelle and the staff at FNCS were terrific, and it was wonderful to have so much support and encouragement from the people of Brandon.”
Eve of Ascension is the first book in a science fiction series that captures the devastating consequences that arise from an abuse of government power.
When an attempt at establishing a World Government is on the brink of failure, the global elite retreat to a space station and crash an asteroid into the Earth so they can bring the population down to a manageable level. They return after the Earth heals from the Cataclysm and establish The Ascendancy. They offer refuge in twelve new cities around the globe and offer survivors a life of comfort in exchange for doing everything they can to better the new government.
The story follows Baxter Clarke, who grows up in the city of Enswell, enjoying luxuries provided by the Ascendancy thanks to his brilliant father's contributions. But when Baxter discovers a connection that upsets the balance he has been familiar with all his life, he finds himself in a situation he never dreamed possible. Now, with the fate of the Ascended attached to a device stolen from a government agency, he will have to run for his life and leave the city to save his people and rise to be the man he was meant to be.
Daniel McMillan will be at Coles Shoppers Mall Saturday, July 6th, 2019 at 12:00 pm for a book signing event.
Eve of Ascension is available in paperback and digital download at Amazon and Chapters. Copies will also be available at local bookstores in Brandon, Manitoba at George Strange’s Bookmart, the Brandon University Bookstore, and Coles in the Shoppers mall.
