Daniel McMillanContrast is what it is called when you have something happen in your life that shows you what you don't want. It can come in the form of hard times, or a bad situation, or something as simple as a parking ticket. But these times are not a punishment or a test. They are in fact what the universe does to help you to learn something that you need to know. Contrast in your life is presented to you whenever you need it, to make sure that you understand something. It can show you that you may be on the wrong path, or to remind you of something that you may already have known and may have forgotten. Contrast may also be presented to you to inspire you to action, or to behave in a different way. It is a regular part of your growth process, and a usual part of life. If it is embraced with the same amount of welcoming and reflection as the good times in your life, it can be a source of great learning. It has the capacity to propel you further ahead in your experience and practices than you might first think, but for this to happen, you have to be open to learning a lesson at a time when it may be easy to blame outside forces or feel defeated.
A short period of contrast, handled well, can give you lessons that it may have taken you years or even decades to figure out otherwise. But you have to be willing to look for the good in the bad. Usually, once you have discovered what it is that you were supposed to learn, the contrast comes to an end and allows you to carry on with living.
